Dr. Slavotinek is a board-certified Clinical Geneticist who has worked at UCSF as an Attending in Medical Genetics for over 10 years after completing her medical training in Australia and her specialist training in the United Kingdom. Dr. Slavotinek also works as a physician scientist and has a laboratory that conducts research into the genetic causes of syndromes and birth defects  - they use next-generation sequencing and study genes in fish models to identify new causative genes. She has a long-standing interest in dysmorphology, multiple congenital anomaly syndromes and birth defects, including eye malformations such as anophthalmia (absent eyes) and microphthalmia (small eyes). These birth defects often co-exist with brain malformations, hence her collaboration with the Brain Development Research Plan and Dr.Sherr’s laboratory.
